I am Moira Levant. I have been playing the violin for 50 years and Irish fiddle for 27 years.I have studied violin with Bonnie Lockrem, Rebecca Rodman, Goldye Kopmar, Paul Katz and Stacey Woolley. I have studied Irish Traditional music with Martin Hays, Brendan McGlinchey, and Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh. I have 3 degrees all in music; Music History from Wright State University, Music Composition from Carnegie Mellon, and Ethnomusicology from the University of Limerick in Ireland. I was a member of the Dayton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, played in both the community orchestra and chamber orchestra at Wright State, and later with the MVSO and Middletown Orchesras. I play old country dancing tunes for the Liberty Dancers and am a long time participant of the Fair at New Boston. I teach violin, viola and Irish fiddle in and around Dayton, Ohio. While I have an idea of where we are going, you the student have some control over what you learn. If you come to me with questions and pieces you have found that you want to learn I will help you as best I can. If you don't, I will find pieces for you to play. I sometimes use the Suzuki method and there is a wonderfully laid out book by Pamela Kather for beginning Irish fiddle. I teach to the student because everyone learns at different rates, everyone has their own path. While we may be scaling the same mountain, the path is often different for each student. This is my philosophy, my way of being a teacher.
